OAK CLIFF TOWER

Built in 1965, The Oak Cliff Tower stands 15 floors tall making it the tallest high rise and largest multi-tenant building in Oak Cliff to date. The long-term goal for the Oak Cliff Tower is to turn it into Class A quality by upgrading and replacing the aging infastructure and making cosmetic upgrades similar to the standard and quality of other Jim Lake Companies redevelopment projects.

A Brief History

In 1965, Oak Cliff was a thriving, upscale community just south of downtown Dallas. To fill the need for Class A office space, Oak Cliff Bank and Trust built a multi-tenant office building far larger than any other property in Oak Cliff. The tower, originally tabbed at nine stories, eventually went to fifteen with the last three stories approved after the tower’s steel skeleton was already several stories high. The tower opened on Monday, January 4, 1965 and still today remains the largest multi-tenant office building in Oak Cliff. Oak Cliff Tower is a bronze-sheathed structure that completely dominates one corner of the Dallas skyline. The building rests on a landscaped platform embellished with mature trees and a nostalgic touch of the West. Mature Red Oaks – the tree for which Oak Cliff took its name – and Live Oaks provide shade for the tenants taking their lunch break on the promenade benches. The exterior is constructed of solar glass of amber bronze coloration with glow and warmth, subtle aged finishes and bronze. On December 22, 2020, Jim Lake Companies announced the acquisition of the Historic Oak Cliff Tower with the long-term goal of upgrading and replacing aging infrastructure, and re-brand and redeveloping into flexible offices and co-working spaces.

Some of its major tenants include Bank of America and the State of Texas Comptroller, as well as many other local businesses that have remained tenants for over 20 years. Jim’s son, Scott Lake of Davidson & Bogel Real Estate, brokered the deal which comes 35 years after Jim Lake, Jr. brokered a deal for his father to buy several historic blocks of what is now the Bishop Arts District. The long-term goal of this project is to upgrade and replace aging infrastructure, re-brand and redevelop it into flexible work spaces and co-working spaces. The top floor event space with great views of downtown Dallas is expected to become a destination for weddings, birthdays, networking meetings, and other special events in the years to come. We’re looking forward to building new relationships with the current tenants and new businesses that will come to the Oak Cliff Tower.
